A Star in Zanzibar
In a sunny place called Zanzibar, a little boy named Farrokh Bulsara loved to sing. It was 1946, and the island was full of sounds - waves crashing on the beach, people talking in different languages, and music floating through the air.
"Farrokh, time for dinner!" his mother Jer would call. But little Farrokh was often lost in his own world of music.
His sister Kashmira remembers, "Even when he was tiny, he could hear a song once and play it perfectly on the piano!"
"I want to make people happy with my songs," young Farrokh would tell his family.
Life in Zanzibar was special. The Bulsara family belonged to a group called the Parsis, who came from India. They had their own special ways of doing things. Farrokh's father Bomi worked as a cashier for the British government, and the family lived in a cozy house near the sea.
A Musical Beginning
When Farrokh was seven, something amazing happened. His parents got him a piano! His eyes lit up like stars when he saw it. ⭐
"Practice makes perfect," his father would say, watching Farrokh play for hours.
At school, the teachers noticed something special about him. He wasn't just good at music - he was amazing. They suggested he join the school choir, and soon he was singing in shows!
Fun Fact: Young Farrokh could listen to any song and play it back perfectly after hearing it just once!
When he was eight, his parents sent him to a special school in India called St. Peter's. It was far from home, but it was there that he started his first band - The Hectics! They played music that made everyone want to dance.
Big Changes
But life wasn't always easy. When Farrokh was 17, something big happened. There were problems in Zanzibar, and his family had to move to a very different place - England.
It was cold and grey, nothing like their sunny island home. Everything was different - the food, the weather, and the way people talked. But Farrokh had something that helped him feel better: his music.
"Music speaks to everyone," he would say. "It doesn't matter where you're from."
In their new home in London, Farrokh kept playing music. He listened to new kinds of songs he had never heard before. Rock and roll filled his ears, and he loved it!
His mother recalls, "He would sit by the radio for hours, learning every new song he could."
Dreams Getting Bigger
Even though he missed Zanzibar, Farrokh started dreaming bigger dreams. He wanted to be more than just a piano player - he wanted to be a star!
He started dressing differently, trying new things with his hair, and singing in a bigger, bolder way. His voice was getting stronger every day.
"Someday," he told his sister, "I'm going to make music that the whole world will hear!"
Little did anyone know that this boy from Zanzibar would grow up to become one of the greatest singers ever. But for now, he was just Farrokh, a teenager in a new country, ready to start his next big adventure.
His heart was full of music, his head was full of dreams, and his journey was just beginning. The world wasn't ready for what this young dreamer would become.Finding His Voice
The streets of London buzzed with new sounds. Young Farrokh, now a college student, couldn't get enough of the rock music playing everywhere.
"This is what I want to do," he told himself, tapping his foot to the beat of bands like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin.
New Friends, New Dreams
One day at art school, Farrokh met two other boys who loved music just as much as he did. Their names were Roger Taylor and Brian May. Roger played drums, and Brian had a special guitar he built with his dad.
"Want to jam with us?" Roger asked one day. Farrokh's face lit up like a Christmas tree!
They started playing music together in a tiny room after classes. The walls would shake with their loud music, but they didn't care. They were having too much fun!

Roger laughed. "Like the planet?"
"Like something out of this world!" Freddie replied with a big smile.
First Steps to Stardom
They started playing in small places - school parties, tiny clubs, and even in their garage. Sometimes only ten people would show up. But Freddie performed like there were thousands watching.
