The Empty Cities

Something strange happened when Napoleon’s army entered Russia. The Russian people disappeared!

“Where is everyone?” asked the soldiers.

The Russians had a clever plan. They moved away from their homes and took all their food with them. They even burned their own cities!

The Cold Enemy

Then came Napoleon’s worst enemy – winter! ❄️

The soldiers faced:
• Freezing temperatures
• Deep snow
• No warm clothes
• Very little food

The Long Walk Home

Napoleon had to turn back. The walk home was very sad. Many soldiers got sick. Some couldn’t find food. Others froze in the snow.

“This is worse than any battle,” Napoleon said, watching his army suffer.

Shocking Fact: Out of 500,000 soldiers, only about 20,000 made it back home!

Problems at Home

When Napoleon got back to France, things were different. People weren’t cheering anymore. Other countries saw that Napoleon could be beaten!

England, Russia, Prussia, and Austria joined together. They all wanted to fight Napoleon! ️

Napoleon started losing battles. His enemies got closer and closer to Paris. Even some of his friends started leaving him.

One general asked, “Should we keep fighting?”

Napoleon looked at his map and frowned. The empire he built was starting to fall apart. The next battle would be the most important one of his life! ⚔️

It was June 18, 1815. The sun rose over a field in Belgium called Waterloo. Napoleon stood ready for his last big fight! ⚔️

Saying Goodbye

After the battle, Napoleon had to leave France forever. He was sent to a tiny island called Saint Helena, far away in the ocean. ️

“I will never see France again,” he said sadly.
