Little Frankie from Hoboken
On a cold December day in 1915, a tiny baby was born in Hoboken, New Jersey. His name was Francis Albert Sinatra, but everyone called him Frankie.
Fun Fact: Baby Frankie was so big - 13.5 pounds - that doctors had to use special tools to help him be born. He got hurt during birth, which left a scar on his left cheek and ear.
Frankie lived in a small house with his mom Dolly and dad Marty. His mom and dad came from Italy to make a better life in America. They worked very hard to give little Frankie everything he needed.
"Frankie, come help me in the kitchen!" Dolly would call out. She ran a busy neighborhood store and made yummy Italian food for everyone.
Marty was a firefighter who also loved to sing. He would often pick up his ukulele and sing fun songs while Frankie watched with big eyes.
Finding His Voice
Little Frankie wasn't like other kids. While they played baseball in the streets, he preferred to listen to music on the radio. His favorite singer was Bing Crosby. Frankie would sing along, trying to copy Bing's smooth voice.
"Mama, I want to be a singer when I grow up!" young Frankie told his mother one day.
Dolly smiled and said, "Then you'll be the best singer in the world, my boy."
"I remember standing on tables in my grandmother's kitchen, singing for relatives who would give me nickels and dimes." - Frank Sinatra
School Days
School wasn't easy for Frankie. The other kids made fun of his nice clothes (Dolly always made sure he looked sharp! ). But Frankie didn't care. He had big dreams.
He joined the glee club at school, but it wasn't enough. Frankie wanted more. He started singing at local clubs and parties. People loved his clear, beautiful voice.
Big Dreams Begin
By the time he was 15, Frankie knew exactly what he wanted. He didn't finish high school - much to his parents' worry. Instead, he got a job as a delivery boy for the local newspaper. But every spare moment was spent singing and learning about music.

"One day," he would tell himself, "everyone will know my name."
The neighbors would hear him singing late into the night. Some complained, but others would open their windows to listen to the sweet voice of the skinny kid from Hoboken.
A Mother's Love
Dolly believed in her son more than anyone. She worked extra hours at her shop to buy him nice clothes and music supplies. "A star needs to look like a star," she would say, adjusting his tie. ⭐
