The Rise of a Shark
The cold morning air bit through Gordon Gekko's thin suit as he rushed up the steps of Wall Street. It was 1981, and the young trader clutched his briefcase like it held all his dreams. In many ways, it did.
"Move it or lose it, kid!" A older man in an expensive coat bumped past him.
Gordon smiled. He wouldn't be called "kid" much longer. At 27, he already knew more about money than most people twice his age.
Fun Fact: Wall Street got its name because there used to be a real wall there in the 1600s!
Inside the busy trading floor, phones rang everywhere. People yelled numbers back and forth. Paper flew through the air. Gordon loved this crazy place. It felt like home.
"Gekko!" his boss Mr. Peterson called out. "Get over here!"
Gordon walked fast to his boss's desk. The older man had a big cigar in his mouth.
"Yes sir?" Gordon stood tall and straight.
"You see the price of IBM today?" Mr. Peterson pointed at his computer screen.
"Yes sir. Going down fast." Gordon had watched the stock all week.
"Smart boy. What would you do?"
Gordon didn't hesitate. "Buy it all. Every share we can get."
Mr. Peterson raised his bushy eyebrows. "That's a big risk, kid."
"The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward," Gordon said with confidence.
His boss laughed and slapped the desk. "You've got guts, Gekko. Okay, do it. But if you're wrong..."
"I won't be wrong," Gordon said.
He spent the next hour buying IBM stock. Other traders thought he was crazy. The price kept falling. But Gordon knew something they didn't - IBM was about to announce a new computer that would change everything.
The Big Break
Three days later, IBM's stock price shot up like a rocket. Gordon had made more money for the company in one day than most traders made in a year.
Mr. Peterson called him into his private office. The room was full of fancy furniture and had a great view of the city.
"How did you know?" his boss asked.
Gordon straightened his red tie. "I pay attention. I work harder than anyone else. And I never, ever give up."
Mr. Peterson nodded slowly. "You're going places, kid. From now on, you're running your own trading desk."
Gordon tried not to smile too big, but inside he was jumping with joy. This was his chance - his first step toward becoming king of Wall Street.
That night, Gordon stood at his apartment window, looking at the city lights. He thought about all the money out there, just waiting for someone smart enough to grab it.
"Money never sleeps," he whispered to himself. And neither would he. Not until he had it all.
Gordon's Rules for Success:
• Work harder than everyone else
• Know more than everyone else
• Never show fear
• Take big risks for big rewards
• Win at any cost
His phone rang. It was his mother.
"Gordon? Are you eating enough? You work too hard."
"I'm fine, Mom. Actually, I got some good news today..."
He told her about his promotion. She was happy, but worried too.
"Just don't let it change you, Gordon. Money isn't everything."
But Gordon disagreed. In his world, money was the only thing that mattered. And he was just getting started.
He hung up the phone and went back to studying market reports. Tomorrow would bring new chances to prove himself. New chances to win.
The city twinkled below him like a treasure chest full of gold. And Gordon Gekko had the key.Mentorship and Manipulation
The morning sun glinted off Bud Fox's shiny shoes as he paced outside Gordon Gekko's office. He had tried 59 times to get a meeting. Today was try number 60.
"Mr. Gekko doesn't see anyone without an appointment," the secretary said again.
But Bud wouldn't give up. He clutched his briefcase full of stock tips. "It's his birthday. I brought him a special gift."
Inside his huge office, Gordon Gekko watched the young man on the security camera. He smiled. The kid had spirit.
"Let him in, Sandra," Gordon spoke into the intercom.
Power Move: Gordon liked to make people wait. It showed who wanted success the most.
Bud walked in, trying not to stare at the fancy office. The walls had expensive paintings. Three computer screens showed stock prices.
"Mr. Gekko, I'm Bud Fox. Happy birthday, sir." He held out a box of fancy cigars.
Gordon took the cigars without smiling. "You've got exactly 60 seconds to tell me why I shouldn't throw you out."
Bud talked fast about stocks and companies. His father worked at Bluestar Airlines. He knew things others didn't.
Gordon checked his watch. "Time's up, kid."
"Please, Mr. Gekko. I'll work harder than anyone. I'll do whatever it takes."
The Test Begins
Gordon stood up and walked to the window. "You know what makes winners, Bud?"
"What's that, sir?"
"Information. The guy with the best information wins." Gordon turned around. "You want to work for me? Show me what you know."
Bud's eyes lit up. "I can start right now!"
"Not so fast." Gordon sat back down. "First rule: Don't get emotional about stocks. They're just numbers on a screen."
Gekko's Golden Rules:
• Money is the only score that matters
• Trust no one
• Information is power
• Patience is for losers
• Strike fast, strike hard
Over the next weeks, Gordon tested Bud. He made him research companies. He taught him tricks about the stock market. Sometimes the lessons were hard.
"You lost me money today, kid," Gordon growled one afternoon.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Gekko. I thought-"
"Don't think. KNOW." Gordon pointed at the red numbers on the screen. "Every mistake costs real dollars."
But Bud learned fast. Soon he was making good trades. Gordon started trusting him with bigger deals.
One day, Gordon called Bud into his office. "I'm working on something big. Bluestar Airlines."
Bud's eyes got wide. "My father's company?"
"We're going to take it over." Gordon smiled like a shark. "And you're going to help me."
Bud felt worried. "What about the workers? My dad-"
"Listen, pal. You want to be rich? Sometimes you have to do hard things."
Bud nodded slowly. He wanted to be just like Gordon Gekko. But something felt wrong.
That night, Gordon watched the city lights from his penthouse. Teaching Bud was fun. The kid reminded him of himself when he was younger.
His phone buzzed. A message from his spy at Bluestar.
"Everything ready for tomorrow," it said.
Gordon smiled. Soon he would own another company. And Bud would learn the most important lesson of all - in the game of money, there are no friends. The High-Stakes Game
The Bluestar deal was getting bigger every day. Gordon sat in his leather chair, watching three screens flash with numbers.
"Bud!" he shouted. "Get in here!"
Bud ran in, holding papers. His tie was crooked from running around all day.
"What's the word on Bluestar's stock?" Gordon asked.
"It's up 3 points since morning, Mr. Gekko. People are buying like crazy."
Market Watch: When stocks go up fast, smart players get nervous.
Gordon smiled his shark smile. "Good. Time to make our big move."
He picked up his phone and pressed a button. "Buy 100,000 shares of Bluestar. Now."
Bud's eyes got big. "That's so much money!"
"Money makes money, kid. Remember that."
The Secret Plan
Later that day, Gordon called a secret meeting. Rich men in fancy suits filled his office.
"Gentlemen," Gordon said, "Bluestar Airlines is ripe for picking. Here's how we do it."
He showed them his plan on a big screen:
The Takeover Plan:
• Buy lots of stock quietly
• Spread rumors about the company
• Wait for stock price to drop
• Buy even more stock cheap
• Take control of the company
Bud watched from the corner. His stomach felt funny. This would hurt his dad's friends at Bluestar.
"Any questions?" Gordon asked the room.
One man raised his hand. "What about the workers?"
"Not our problem," Gordon said coldly. ❄️
Trouble Brewing
The next morning, bad news about Bluestar was everywhere. The stock started falling.
"Perfect," Gordon said, watching the numbers drop. "Now we strike."
But something wasn't right. Someone else was buying Bluestar stock too.
"Who's messing with my deal?" Gordon yelled. His face turned red.
Bud worked late that night, making calls. He found out a big company from Japan was trying to buy Bluestar too.
"Sir," Bud said nervously. "They might beat us."
Gordon threw his coffee cup against the wall. "Nobody beats me!"
Breaking Rules
"Listen carefully," Gordon whispered to Bud. "I need inside information about Bluestar. Real inside stuff. Can you get it?"
Bud knew that was against the law. But Gordon's eyes were scary.
"I... I'll try," he said softly.
That night, Bud couldn't sleep. He was helping Gordon hurt his father's company. And now Gordon wanted him to break the law.
Meanwhile, Gordon made more secret plans. He called people who owed him favors. He made threats. He offered bribes.
Warning Signs: The bigger the deal got, the more rules Gordon broke.
The stock market was like a wild animal now. Bluestar's price went up and down like a roller coaster.
Gordon worked harder than ever. He barely slept. His eyes were red from staring at screens.
"Nobody can stop us," he told Bud. "We're too big to fail."
But one morning, a man in a dark suit came to Gordon's office. He showed an FBI badge.
"Mr. Gekko," the man said. "We need to talk about some unusual trading in Bluestar stock."
Gordon's smile didn't change. But his hands shook a little as he reached for his phone.
"Get my lawyer," he whispered to his secretary. "Now."Dark Clouds Gathering
The FBI agent sat across from Gordon in the big office. Outside, the city lights twinkled like stars.
"Mr. Gekko, we've noticed some strange things with Bluestar Airlines stock," the agent said.
Gordon leaned back in his chair. His smile stayed big, but his eyes looked worried.
"Everything I do is legal," Gordon said. "Ask my lawyers."
Warning: The FBI watches Wall Street very carefully.
Friends Turn Away
Bud paced in his small office. His phone kept ringing.
"Fox," a whispered voice said. "The SEC is asking questions about Bluestar. I'm scared."
More calls came. Old friends didn't want to talk anymore. People crossed the street when they saw Gordon coming.
"They're all cowards," Gordon growled. "We'll show them."
The Big Choice
Late one night, Bud's father visited him at work.
"Son," he said, "I know what's happening at Bluestar. People will lose their jobs."
Bud looked at his shoes. "Dad, I..."
"You have to choose, Buddy. Money or doing what's right."
Decision Time: Sometimes the hardest choices are between what's easy and what's right.
Secrets Come Out
The next morning, newspapers had big stories about Bluestar.
"GEKKO'S GAMBLE: Inside the Bluestar Deal"
Gordon threw the paper across his office. "Who talked? WHO TALKED?"
His phone rang. It was his biggest investor.
"I'm pulling my money out, Gordon. This is too hot."
More calls came. More people left. Gordon's empire started shaking.
The Walls Close In
FBI agents filled the office. They took boxes of papers. They copied computer files.
"You can't do this!" Gordon yelled.
"We have a warrant," they said.
Bud watched from his desk. His hands shook as he opened his drawer. Inside was a small tape recorder. On it were all of Gordon's secret plans.
He had to decide: protect Gordon or tell the truth?
The Price of Greed: Gordon's big plans were falling apart because he broke too many rules.
That afternoon, Gordon called everyone to his office.
"Listen up," he said. His voice was rough. "Anyone who talks to the FBI is dead on Wall Street. Remember that."
But his hands shook as he poured his drink. The great Gordon Gekko was scared.
Outside his window, dark clouds gathered over New York. A storm was coming. ️The Empire Crumbles
The morning sky was dark as Gordon walked into the courthouse. Camera flashes lit up his face like lightning.
"Mr. Gekko! Did you cheat with Bluestar?" reporters shouted.
Gordon kept his head high. But his famous smile was gone.
The Big Day
Inside the courtroom, Gordon sat at a big wooden table. His expensive suit didn't make him feel powerful anymore.
"All rise!" the guard called out.
The judge looked down at Gordon. "Mr. Gekko, you are charged with insider trading..."
Important Moment: Even the biggest Wall Street sharks can get caught.
The Truth Comes Out
Bud Fox walked to the front of the courtroom. His hands were shaking.
"Tell us what Mr. Gekko did," the lawyer said.
Gordon's face turned red as Bud played...
