A City Divided
The sun rose over beautiful Verona, Italy. But not everyone was happy on this bright morning. Two big families, the Montagues and Capulets, had been fighting for a very long time.
"Stay away from those Capulets!" Papa Montague told his son Romeo at breakfast. His face was red with anger. "They are our enemies!"
Across town, in a fancy house with tall windows, Juliet Capulet heard similar words from her dad. "Those Montagues are no good!" Lord Capulet shouted, banging his fist on the table. ⚔️
Fun Fact: Verona was a city full of beautiful buildings, colorful markets, and busy streets. But the fighting between these families made everyone nervous.
Young Romeo walked through the streets, his blue cape flowing behind him. He saw how the fighting hurt everyone. When Montagues walked by, Capulets would make mean faces. When Capulets passed, Montagues would stick out their tongues.
"Why can't we all be friends?" Romeo asked his cousin Benvolio. They watched as two servants, one from each family, started pushing each other in the town square.
"Be careful!" shouted a fruit seller, pulling his cart away. "These silly fights will knock over my apples!"
Little did anyone know that things were about to change. Romeo, with his kind heart and dreamy eyes, would soon meet someone special. Someone who would make him forget all about this silly fighting.
Juliet stood on her balcony that evening, looking at the stars. She was only thirteen, but her parents already talked about finding her a husband. She didn't want to marry someone she didn't love.
"I wish I could find true love," she whispered to the evening breeze.
The city guards walked through the streets with lanterns, trying to keep peace between the families. But they couldn't stop the angry words and mean looks.
"Watch where you're going, Montague fool!" a Capulet boy yelled.
"You're the fool, Capulet!" came the reply.
Prince Escalus, who ruled Verona, was very worried. He called both families to the town square.
"If you fight again in our peaceful streets," he warned, "you will be in big trouble! I want this fighting to stop!"
But both families were too proud to listen. They went back to their homes, still angry at each other.
That night, something magical was about to happen. The Capulets were planning a big party. They didn't know it yet, but this party would change everything.
Romeo's friend Mercutio found a fancy invitation on the ground. "Look!" he said with a mischievous smile. "The Capulets are having a masked ball. Everyone will wear costumes!"
Romeo wasn't sure about going to his enemies' party. But sometimes the best adventures start when we're a little scared. And this adventure would be bigger than anyone could imagine.
The streets of Verona grew quiet as night fell. Stars twinkled above the city's towers and rooftops. Tomorrow would bring something new - something that would shake both families to their core.
Down in Friar Lawrence's garden, the old priest mixed his herbs and worried about the fighting families. "Love," he said to himself, "might be the only medicine for all this hatred." He didn't know how right he was.
As the moon rose higher, Romeo couldn't sleep. He felt like something big was about to happen. And across the city, in her room decorated with flowers, Juliet felt the same way.The Masked Ball
The Capulet house sparkled with a thousand candles. Music floated through the air as guests in colorful masks twirled and danced. Romeo, wearing a knight's mask, snuck in with his friends.
"This is so exciting!" whispered Mercutio, adjusting his fox mask. "But be careful - if they find out you're a Montague..."
Party Scene: The grand hall was filled with dancers in beautiful costumes, sweet treats on golden plates, and musicians playing happy tunes.
Then Romeo saw her. Juliet was wearing an angel costume, with tiny stars in her hair. She was the prettiest girl he had ever seen. His heart started beating faster.
"Who is that girl?" Romeo asked a servant.
"That's Juliet Capulet, the host's daughter," the servant replied.
Romeo couldn't believe it. A Capulet! But he couldn't look away. When their eyes met across the room, it felt like magic. ✨
Juliet noticed the mysterious boy too. She had never felt this way before. It was like all the stars in the sky were dancing in her heart.
"Would you like to dance?" Romeo asked, holding out his hand.
"Yes," Juliet smiled, taking it.
They danced and talked, forgetting about everyone else. Romeo's words were like poetry:
"If I had known love could feel like this,
I would have searched the whole world to find you."
But Tybalt, Juliet's angry cousin, was watching. He recognized Romeo's voice.
"Uncle!" he stormed over to Lord Capulet. "There's a Montague at our party!"
Lord Capulet looked at the happy dancers. "Let him be. He seems polite, and this is a party."
But Tybalt wasn't happy. He clenched his fists and watched Romeo carefully.
Later, Romeo found Juliet alone in the garden. The moon made everything silver and magical.
"I know I shouldn't be here," Romeo said. "But I had to tell you - you're the most wonderful person I've ever met."
Juliet's heart felt like it might burst with happiness. "I feel the same way," she whispered.
They knew their families would be angry. They knew it was dangerous. But sometimes, love is stronger than old fights and silly rules.
Nurse, Juliet's helper, called from inside: "Juliet! Your mother wants you!"
"I have to go," Juliet said sadly. "Will I see you again?"
"Wild horses couldn't keep me away," Romeo promised.
As Juliet hurried inside, Romeo stayed in the garden, his heart full of new feelings. He didn't care anymore about the family fight. He only cared about Juliet.
The party ended, and guests went home. But for Romeo and Juliet, everything had changed. They had found something special - something worth fighting for.
Under the starry sky, Romeo walked home dreaming of Juliet's smile. And in her room, Juliet hugged her pillow, thinking about the boy in the knight's mask.
Neither of them could sleep that night. They had too many butterflies in their tummies, too many happy thoughts in their heads.

"Juliet!" Romeo called softly. "You shine brighter than the moon!"
Juliet almost fell off her balcony in surprise! "Romeo! What are you doing here? It's dangerous!"
"I couldn't stay away," Romeo said. "My heart led me back to you."
They talked for hours about their love. They didn't care that their families were enemies. Love felt more important than old fights.
"Will you marry me?" Romeo asked. "Tomorrow?"
Juliet's face lit up like sunshine. "Yes! A thousand times yes!"
The next morning, Romeo ran to see Friar Lawrence. The kind old man lived in a little church.
"Please help us, Friar," Romeo begged. "Maybe our love can stop the fighting between our families!"
Friar Lawrence stroked his gray beard. He knew it was risky, but maybe Romeo was right.
"Okay," he said. "I'll marry you two today. Love might be just what Verona needs." ❤️
Juliet's nurse helped her sneak out. She wore a pretty white dress and carried flowers from the garden.
Romeo waited in the church. When he saw Juliet, his eyes got all wet with happy tears.
The wedding was small but perfect. Friar Lawrence read special words, and Romeo and Juliet promised to love each other forever.

The happy morning after the secret wedding turned stormy. Tybalt, Juliet's angry cousin, marched through the streets.
"Where is that Romeo?" he shouted. His sword banged against his side as he walked.
Romeo's friend Mercutio was enjoying the sunny day when he heard Tybalt.
"Why so angry, Tybalt?" Mercutio laughed. "Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?"
Warning Signs: The air felt heavy with danger. Bad things were about to happen.
Romeo came walking down the street, still smiling about his secret marriage.
"There you are, Montague!" Tybalt pulled out his sword. "Fight me!"
Romeo shook his head. "I don't want to fight you, Tybalt. We should be friends!"
"Friends? With a Montague? Never!" Tybalt spat.
Mercutio jumped between them. "If Romeo won't fight you, I will!" ⚔️
"No, Mercutio! Stop!" Romeo tried to grab his friend's arm.
But it was too late. Swords flashed in the sun. The sound of metal hitting metal rang through the street.
"Watch your step, Tybalt!" Mercutio danced around, sword swinging.
Romeo tried to stop them. In the confusion, something terrible happened.
Tybalt's sword found its mark. Mercutio fell, holding his chest.
"I'm hurt!" Mercutio gasped. "A curse on both your houses!"
Romeo caught his friend as he fell. "Mercutio! No!"
A Friend Lost: Mercutio closed his eyes forever in Romeo's arms.
Anger filled Romeo's heart. He grabbed his sword and turned to Tybalt.
"This is your fault!" Romeo shouted. More fighting! More metal crashing!
When it was over, Tybalt lay still on the ground. Romeo stood there, shaking.
The Prince of Verona came running with his guards. "What happened here?"
People from both families gathered around, pointing fingers and yelling.
"Romeo killed Tybalt!" "But Tybalt killed Mercutio first!"
The Prince raised his hands for quiet. "Romeo Montague, you are banished from Verona. Leave today, or die!"
Romeo's world crashed down around him. "Banished? But Juliet..."
He ran to Friar Lawrence's church to hide. "What have I done? How can I leave my love?"
At home, Juliet didn't know what had happened. She was singing and waiting for night to see Romeo again.
But her nurse came running in with tears on her face. "Oh, terrible day! Your cousin Tybalt is dead!"
Juliet's heart stopped. "What? How?"
"Romeo killed him! And now the Prince has banished Romeo forever!"
Juliet fell onto her bed, crying. Her perfect happiness had turned to ashes.
Storm clouds covered Verona now. Thunder rolled across the sky, matching the darkness in everyone's hearts. ⛈️
And somewhere in the city, Romeo was hiding, trying to figure out how to say goodbye to his new wife...A Dangerous Plan
The sun rose on a sad day in Verona. Juliet sat in her room, tears falling like rain.
"Marry Count Paris," her father demanded. "The wedding will be in two days!"
Juliet's heart felt like it would break. "But Father, I can't!"
Juliet's Trouble: She was already married to Romeo in secret. Now her parents wanted her to marry someone else!
"You will marry Paris, or I'll throw you out on the street!" her father shouted.
