The Spark of Courage The sun rose over Jerusalem's dusty streets. Peter walked with quick steps. His heart beat fast. He had a big job to do. Jesus had told him and his friends to share good news with everyone. Fun Fact: Jerusalem was a big city where many people spoke different languages! "Are you sure about this?" Barnabas asked, walking next to Peter. "The Romans won't like what we're doing." Peter smiled. "Jesus said to be brave. We must tell everyone about His love." The streets got busier. People from many places were in Jerusalem. Some wore colorful clothes. Others spoke words Peter didn't know. But he wasn't scared anymore. A Special Day Something amazing happened that day. Peter stood up to speak. His voice shook at first. But then something wonderful occurred! Everyone could understand him - even people from far away places! "God's love is for everyone!" Peter said with a big smile. "Not just for some people, but for all people!" Many people listened. They wanted to know more. That day, lots of people decided to follow Jesus. It was the start of something big! Paul's Big Adventure Then there was Paul. He used to not like Jesus's followers. But one day, everything changed! Jesus appeared to him on a road. After that, Paul became one of Jesus's biggest helpers. Paul went on many trips. He rode boats across big seas. He walked through hot deserts. He climbed tall mountains. Nothing could stop him from sharing Jesus's love! ‍♂️ Places Paul Visited What He Did There Antioch Made many friends Corinth Started new churches Athens Taught about Jesus Sometimes, Paul got in trouble. Some people didn't like what he said. They put him in jail. But Paul kept smiling. He wrote letters to his friends. He told them to be brave. Important: Paul wrote many letters that became part of the Bible! Brave Friends Paul wasn't alone. Barnabas went with him on many trips. They were like a team! They helped each other when things got hard. They made new friends everywhere they went. "Look how many people want to know about Jesus!" Barnabas said one day. Paul nodded. "Yes! And this is just the beginning!" More and more people joined them. They went to new cities. They crossed seas. They shared stories about Jesus. Some people listened. Others didn't. But the good news kept spreading. Even when storms came, even when people were mean, Peter, Paul, and their friends kept going. They knew they had an important job to do. They were starting something that would grow bigger than they could imagine!Crossing Borders, Spreading Hope Many years passed after Peter and Paul's time. The world changed a lot. New people picked up where they left off. These brave people went to places far away to share Jesus's love. Patrick's Story "I never thought I'd come back here," said Patrick, looking at Ireland's green hills. He had been taken there as a slave when he was young. But now he was back for a different reason. Fun Fact: Patrick used shamrocks (three-leaf clovers) to teach about God! Patrick walked from village to village. He made friends with the Irish people. He learned their language. He told them stories about Jesus in ways they could understand. "God's love is like the sun," Patrick would say. "It shines on everyone, no matter who they are!" Columba's Journey Up in Scotland, another brave person named Columba built a special place on an island called Iona. People came from everywhere to learn about Jesus. ️ Columba and his friends wrote beautiful books. They painted pretty pictures in them. These books helped people learn about Jesus's love. Missionary Where They Went Patrick Ireland Columba Scotland Boniface Germany Boniface's Big Task Boniface went to a place we now call Germany. The people there believed in different gods. They had a special oak tree they thought was magic. "God is stronger than any tree," Boniface said. He chopped down the tree to show them. Something amazing happened! Surprising Truth: Where the oak tree fell, a tiny pine tree grew. People say this is why we use Christmas trees today! Monks and Their Mission Special groups called monks lived together in buildings called monasteries. They did many good things: • They helped sick people get better• They taught children to read• They gave food to hungry people• They wrote books by hand• They planted gardens• They shared Jesus's love with everyone "We must show God's love by helping others," the monks would say. And they did! New Ways to Share These missionaries were clever. They learned new languages. They wrote songs. They told stories. They found ways to explain Jesus's love that made sense to different people. "Look!" said a young monk one day. "The people understand better when we use their own words!" The missionaries worked hard. They walked long distances. They crossed stormy seas. They climbed tall mountains. But they kept going because they believed in what they were doing. Many people began to follow Jesus. They built churches. They started schools. They helped their neighbors. The good news kept spreading, just like ripples in a pond. The world was changing. More and more people were learning about Jesus's love. But there were still many places to go and many more people to meet. The story wasn't over - it was just beginning to grow bigger!New Worlds, New Journeys The world got bigger! People built big ships to sail across oceans. They found new lands they had never seen before. Many brave missionaries went on these ships to share Jesus's love in far-away places. ⛵ Francis Xavier's Big Adventure "Look how vast the ocean is!" Francis Xavier said as he stood on the ship's deck. He was sailing to places called India and Japan. Amazing Fact: Francis learned many languages to talk to people about Jesus! ️ In Japan, Francis met people who had never heard about Jesus before. "Your ways are different from ours," they told him. "That's okay," Francis smiled. "We can learn from each other!" The Brave Jesuits A special group called the Jesuits went to many new places. They were like explorers and teachers at the same time! In China, a Jesuit named Matteo Ricci wore Chinese clothes and learned Chinese ways. He made many friends by showing respect for their culture. Place What Was New and Different China Tea, silk clothes, special writing India Spicy food, colorful clothes South America New foods like corn and potatoes Adventures in the Americas Missionaries sailed across the big ocean to North and South America. They met people called Native Americans who lived there. Important to Know: The missionaries learned about new foods like corn, potatoes, and chocolate! In South America, missionaries helped protect the local people. They built special villages called missions where people could live safely and learn new things. Learning and Sharing The missionaries did these important things: • Made maps of new places• Wrote down new languages• Built schools and hospitals• Learned about different plants and animals• Shared stories about Jesus• Made friends with new people Making New Friends "Every person is special," the missionaries taught. "God loves everyone, no matter where they come from." They met people who looked different, spoke different languages, and ate different foods. But they found that everyone could understand love and kindness. Sometimes things were hard. The weather was hot or cold. The food was strange. Some people didn't want to be friends at first. But the missionaries kept trying. They showed love by helping people who were sick or hungry. Good News: Many people became friends and helped each other! The missionaries wrote letters home about all the amazing things they saw. They told stories about the brave and kind people they met. They sent back drawings of new animals and plants. More and more people wanted to go on these adventures. They wanted to meet new friends and share Jesus's love. The world was getting smaller as people from different places learned about each other! But times were changing. New ways of traveling would soon make it easier to go even further. More exciting adventures were waiting ahead! Dreams and New Ways The world was changing fast! Big machines called steam engines made boats and trains go faster. More people than ever wanted to share Jesus's love around the world. William Carey's Big Dream "Everyone should hear about Jesus's love!" William Carey told his friends. He lived in England but dreamed of going to India. Cool Fact: William was a shoemaker who taught himself many languages! Some people laughed at William's dream. "It's too hard," they said. "With God's help, we can do big things!" William smiled. He never gave up. The India Adventure William finally went to India! He did many good things there: • Made schools for boys and girls• Wrote books in Indian languages• Helped sick people• Made a big garden to study plants• Taught people to read• Made many new friends Hudson Taylor's Special Way In China, Hudson Taylor did something different. He wore Chinese clothes and ate Chinese food! "To show love," Hudson said, "we must understand how others live." Important Change: Hudson showed that missionaries could respect local ways while sharing Jesus's love. New Tools for Teaching New Thing How It Helped Printing Machines Made lots of books quickly Hospitals Helped sick people get better Schools Taught reading and writing Brave Women Missionaries Women like Mary Slessor went to Africa. She helped stop fighting between villages and saved many babies' lives. "Every person is precious," Mary taught. "Girls can do amazing things too!" Happy News: Many girls started going to school for the first time! Learning Together The missionaries built big schools called colleges. People learned about: - Reading and writing - Medicine to help sick people - Farming better ways - Jesus's teachings - How to be good teachers Making the World Better These missionaries worked hard to help people. They: Built hospitals Started schools Taught better farming Helped poor people Made peace between fighting groups New Friends Everywhere People from different countries became missionaries too! They shared Jesus's love in their own special ways. Amazing Thing: Now missionaries came from Africa, Asia, and everywhere! The world was changing fast. New machines like cameras and telegraphs helped people stay in touch better. But bigger changes were coming. The way people shared Jesus's love would soon be very different!New Voices Rise The world changed a lot in the 1900s! People in Africa and Asia started sharing Jesus's love in their own special ways. Special Leaders From Every Place "We can tell Jesus's story in our own words!" said Simon Kimbangu from Africa. Many people came to hear him speak. Cool Fact: Simon sang songs about Jesus in African languages! In India, Sadhu Sundar Singh wore orange clothes like holy men in his country. He walked from village to village telling stories about Jesus. "Jesus's love is for everyone, in every language!" Sadhu smiled. New Ways to Pray People started praying and singing to Jesus in new ways: - Using drums and special music - Dancing with joy - Making beautiful art - Writing poems in their languages - Telling stories from their culture Big Changes Old Way New Way Only Western leaders Leaders from everywhere One style of church Many different styles Only English songs Songs in all languages Special Stories In Korea, many people started big churches. They prayed early every morning! Amazing News: Churches in Africa grew bigger than churches in Europe! Helping Each Other Churches from different countries started working together. They: Shared teachers Made books together Built hospitals Started schools Helped poor people New Ideas Growing "We can love Jesus and keep our good old ways too," said leaders in China. They painted pictures of Jesus that looked Chinese. Happy Change: People found many beautiful ways to show Jesus's love! Working Together Young people started new kinds of churches. Some met: • In homes • Under trees • In school rooms • By rivers • In city buildings Big Meetings Christians from all over the world had big meetings. They shared: - Stories about Jesus - New songs - Different ways to pray - Ideas to help people - Plans for working together The good news about Jesus was changing. It wasn't just from one place anymore. It was like a beautiful garden with flowers from every country! More exciting changes were coming with new machines called computers. Digital Hearts, Global Faith The internet changed everything! Now Jesus's story travels at the speed of light through phones...
